4. Who are your competitors? List them if you can.
I have no competitors. No one, I know to date, applies hair like I do with the same concept of growing and transitioning. If you were to google “hair extensions”, you
will find 9 times out of 10 lots of horror stories of hair extensions ripping out the clients hair. This may be true, but what the customer does not know is that there
are correct applications, gentle removal, maintenance, etc. Then as you read more about extensions and compare my website and all my FAQs, you will understand
why the health of your hair is so important.
5. What distinguishes you from your competitors and give reasons why you believe your clients/customers would rather work with you rather than
your competitor(s)?
Here is a press release that better describes me:
At TheSecretMane Salon, clients are privileged with the salon’s “secrets” for vibrantly healthy, growing hair. Our knowledge of extension and hair piece application, scalp
and hair follicle treatments, coverage for bald spots and thinning hair, and individualized hair monitoring is unsurpassed by our colleagues.
We work with anyone who are in need of serious hair repair due to everything from poor hair extension application by other stylists, malnutrition, female pattern
baldness, chemotherapy, alopecia, over processing and trichotillomania (obsessive compulsive pulling of the hair). We also work with those who simply
desire fuller, healthier and longer hair. Hair and scalp health is our primary goal in working with our clients. We have created the best scalp, hair follicle and nutrition
based hair treatments available to achieve the trademark full, healthy mane that our clientele is known to have.
Our clients do not suffer from the usual damage and matting that plagues most hair extension wearers. As hair restoration specialists, we have seen the damage caused
by improper installation and maintenance. To avoid this, we apply our installs neatly, remove them gently and we monitor clients’ hair condition and growth on a
regular basis, post-application. Our methods range from using human hair to a lighter weight man-made hair, as well as various custom hair pieces. We are a genius at
covering thinning areas by attaching four hairs to each individual hair in the thinning area to create a fuller appearance. We never shave or cut growing hair as we feel
this defeats the purpose.
All treatments and applications are determined after Charlene Blacer, our Educator, who conducts her in-depth personalized consultations. Her methods of hair
extension application have been able to restore the health of our clients’ natural hair, resulting in hair that grows in stronger in 1 – 2 years; a result that is
unheard of with hair extensions and hair pieces.
6. Please describe briefly, your unique business “story” (what made you decide to do what you do).
Simply it is pure passion. Many hair extensionist or hair replacement specialists enter this business because they too suffer from hair loss or trichotillomania. I do
not suffer from any of those. My own hair is naturally healthy long and strong and I want to help people achieve this. I was a Nursing major throughout high school and
college but after working part time in a salon to fund my nursing career, I discovered hair extensions and because no salon, even living in the middle of NYC, wanted to
hire me, I had no choice but to start my own company. I was a one-man-show. Although I learned the basics of hair enhancements in the 1-2 day courses, I had to
become self-taught and this is why everything I invented throughout the years were from trial, error and perfection. I never worked under the supervision of any hair
enhancement salon. I also chose not to follow the “wheel”. I wanted to be unique. Being unique made me nervous thinking I would lose clients, but instead they told me
they wanted to do business with me because they feel they could trust me with their hair whereas other salons would just say sell.
7. Please list your current/past clients/organizations/companies that you feel would make a good “first” impression on a cold call (name dropping,
testimonial purposes).
“I’ve been pull-free for over 5 years”- Trich client.
“I've been taught by many top professionals in the industry and paid thousands of dollars. Charlene's methods are far advance, impressive and best of all it's free and
she provides me clients. The client introduction is simple because Charlene screens them and knows already what their needs and goals are. She also makes special
accommodations for my busy schedule and we have fun training on webcam. I have been a part of TheSecretMane University since June 2010 and offering the
proprietary process is an added income for my business as well as helping a great cause”- Deb Read, Hair Stylist
8. Describe a success story or two in which your expertise helped a client significantly.
You would really have to see it in photos here- http://www.cybermane.com/Trichotillomania_Successful_Hair_Growth.html
9. Outside of the contact list that you/we provide, what kinds/types of prospects would you love to have as clients?
I just want to change more lives. I want to give to the deserving. Do you know that show “Extreme Home Edition”- people like them.
10. Who, within the company, would you like us to target, i.e.: VP Human Resources, VP Sales, VP Finance, CEO, President, Managers, etc.? Please be
specific for SME’s or Corporate?
Any companies whose mission is all about helping people. The circle I created is natural, drug-free and helps grow hair, is focus on the health and wellness of the
individual and helps non-profits. I want to remain in this circle but also extend it to those with similar philosophies.
11. What questions do you use to qualify a prospect before setting the appointment? Please list 5 – 10 pre-qualifying questions that we can use.
(Please note that some of these questions will be used some of the time –when appropriate.)
1. What made you choose this company?
2. I need to see their photos (top, 2 sides, back).
3. Are they ready to do this hair treatment? It’s a commitment, like a diet program.
4. How do they currently care, style their hair?
5. Describe their lifestyle (kids, smoking, drugs, what kind of job)
6. What are your past hair experiences?
7. Are you wearing any enhancements? What were your experiences?
8. Medical history?
9. What are their hair goals? (just for a day, till your hair grows out?)
10.Show me 2 photos of you ideal mane.
12. If we were to meet, three years from today, what has to have happened over those three years for you to be happy with your success?
I want to deliver my services to clients who need TheSecretMane close to them but most importantly changes the lives of Trichotillomania Sufferers, the kind of non-
profit that actually delivers a "cure" versus trying to find a "cure" because the top 2 things a Trich Sufferer will tell you is; "I just want to stop", "I want my hair to grow
back." And as you have seen from our photos, we are successful in accomplishing those goals and with no recurrence of the disorder!
An interview with TheSecretMane founder, Charlene Blacer, about Charlene
1. Imagine yourself sitting next to a person on a plane and she asked you to describe your business. How would
you answer this question?
I am a hair health growth expert restoring the image of people with a hairloss/pulling disorder and changing their lives.
2. How long have you been in business?
I’ve been in the salon industry since 1989. I’ve been doing hair extensions since 1991 as a freelancer. It wasn’t until 2000 that
the Internet started to become a household name that I created a website. After getting clients who wanted hair extensions but
their hair was too thin to support the extensions, I had to study hair replacement in 2002 and in 2004 got my first
Trichotillomania client.
3. What does this service/product do for your client? Does it accomplish certain specific things or help solve
issues?
My concept is all about restoring the natural hair. I focus on hair enhancements as “training wheels”, a camouflage while
allowing the natural hair to regrow. I may lose clients after a year or so, but to me, I understand that hair extensions are
fashion hair and I respect their purpose. I don’t want to be any hair dresser who applies the extensions and down the road the
customer will have less hair than they started with. Let me give you an example. When a person gets a nose job, they get
it because they may want to breathe better. That is the kind of “plastic surgeon” I am. I refuse to be a “Michael Jackson plastic
surgeon”.
