"Most hair stylists get into the hair extension business because they've had a bad hair extension
application experience or they suffer from hair loss or they see it as a get rich quick service {yes,
unfortunately there are many hair extension companies who will tempt stylists with their "make
thousands per day" ads.  Most of these companies offer only a 2 day course
and can charge as high as $7500}.  Then once the stylist start to do hair extensions, they find it's
too time consuming, or they lack fine motor skills, or they do not have their teacher's support in the
salon, or they cannot find clients who want the service or the clients who will even pay for the service,
or they feel it interferes with their cut, color services and as a result these stylists begin to lose
interest.  Many decide to put this specialty service aside.  Their talent quickly becomes rusted and
therefore new clients requesting their hair extension service suffer from what many of us know today
as "the hair extension horror stories... breakage, damages, matting, tangling, ripping...." and it's
easy to understand why.

I, on the other hand, got into hair extensions because I truly LOVE it!  It is my #1 passion.  It was
actually the only reason I went to beauty school after my sophomore year in a 4-year college,
majoring in nursing.  As a child, I wanted to help people so I studied nursing both in high school and
in college and because that was the only "helping people" career I've learned from my family who
are mostly employed as doctors and nurses.  I wanted to become an Army nurse because I was
inspired by my grandfather who was a surgeon for the US Army during World War II and who's helped
many victims.

I first learned of hair extensions when I worked weekends in a salon for extra college tuition {weekdays after school I worked as a Student Nurse}.
From the minute I saw it, I decided that, that is going to be my career and I would do anything to have it.  It became an addiction to the point
that I would spend thousands of dollar on all kinds of hair extension classes.  I never saw hair extensions as a get rich quick service and at
age seventeen, I didn't know the difference between a high or low salary.  Nor did I see it has a way to help my own hair cause my own hair is
naturally healthy, long and strong. Growing up, my father gave us all haircuts so I thought everyone was talented in cutting hair. Although I
inherited my father's natural talents, hair cutting is not my #1 passion.
{The hair cutting and hair coloring skills that you see on my website are not
from advanced classes. My work is ALL visual.}

After I graduated from beauty school in 1991, applying for a hair extension job became extremely difficult because ALL of the salons wanted to
teach me mostly cuts and color, or they didn't have clients who wanted the service and I had to be responsible for my own advertising, or they
only wanted to teach me one method, a "one-size-fits-all" approach, which I thought was not right since many clients have different needs.
The only way to pursue my teenage dream was to go off on my own.  Never did I intend to open my own business.  All I ever wanted to become
was a hair extension specialist.

Fortunately, I was able to do countless amounts of research
{the Internet had just started taking off} and I'm so glad that things turned out the
way they did!  The marriage of my 2 careers, nursing and hair extensions, gave birth to CyberMane, Inc on July 5, 2000 and eventually, The
Secret Mane Salon and now my non-profit foundation Help Me 2 Stop.org.  My dream career has flourished into something way better than I
could ever have expected in a lifetime.

To my past and present clients, I thank you for supporting me throughout the very difficult years in my life and for believing in my imagination
in my quest to create the most ingenious installations.  You are all my teachers.  What excites me more are my most challenging
transformations.  I am applying all the classes, all the lessons, all the countless hours I've learned throughout the years, then improvising a
unique hybrid method that's successfully changing my clients' lives.  We have made that the strength of this company as we continue to build
together and leave a legacy that will be enjoyed by our future generations."  - Charlene Blacer
