Charlene Blacer
How did you get started with Trich clients?

I was a Hair Extension Specialist and I would get clients who
wanted extensions but their hair was too thin or they had bald
spots.  I lost them to hair replacement companies.  That's when I
decided to take hair replacement courses.  In the hair replacement
classes, I learned many types of hair loss like alopecia,
chemotherapy, trichotillomania...  The class doesn't teach any
psychology, just how to fix the hair.  So when I received a phone
call from my very first Trich client in 2004 who wanted a
consultation, I was very nervous.  That night, I kept wondering
what I would ask her hoping not to offend her in any way.  But I
told myself;
"just be yourself Charlene, and she if she likes you"
That day, we were both shy.  I told her she was my first Trich
client and she made me feel very comfortable and in turn I made her
feel comfortable.
She a palm-size bald spot on her crown, so I suggested a small
hairpiece.  I shyly asked her;
"say, what are the chances you might
pull out the hair on the piece?"
She said she doesn't know, it was
her first time, but she needed my help.  So we both decided to give
it a try.  After wearing the piece for a month, we both could not
believe our eyes!  And the stories she's telling me about her life
that it's changing, she's wearing her hair down, swimming,
dating...I was speechless!  After nine months of joy, her hair was
growing so fast that I felt she didn't need the hairpiece and asked
if she wanted to try hair extensions.  She said "yes", that worked
too!  I felt like I created some "miracle".
That's when I submitted my story to TLC and from there created more
"miracles".
I was very fortunate that my first encounter with a Trich-Sufferer
was a kind, sweet, very friendly person and the only tears she shed
were of joy!
{I swear talking to her was like talking to a close
friend!}
If my first Trich-Sufferer client would have been a
person with an opposite personality, I doubt I would feel
comfortable to continue offering my services for Trich.
"Ask me anything!
Great questions,
will be published!"
Do you wear hair extensions?

I wore them when a beauty school colleague cut my hair too short!
That was in 1994.  I think I wore them for almost 2 years till my
own hair grew back.  Here is the
picture.  Nowadays, I don't wear
them at all. I really like my own hair.
Was there ever a time when you
hated your hair?

When I was I younger my father used to cut the
family's hair.  My father is a CPA but he knew
how to cut hair!  So growing up I thought
everyone knew how to cut hair.  One day, I
wanted a hair cut so bad before the beginning
of my senior year in high school.  I pleaded
with my boyfriend to cut it and he messed it
up!  I was so disappointed!  My father fixed
it and for my senior year photo, I had a
really short hair cut.  I didn't hate my hair,
just the fact that the hair was too short for
my full cheeks and it just made my face look
even bigger.
